case study: Branding & Logo - the glitterball bakery

Fiona, who was starting a new baking business, saw an advert IDEAlee had placed on facebook and contacted us to design a bespoke logo for her new venture. 

 

WHY US?

The Client selected us for a number of key reasons: 

  • she had worked with our Creative Director before and when she saw that he had started IDEAlee the timing was perfect and she was keen to work with him again having confidence in his graphic design capability, professionalism and creativeness;

  • she was keen to have complete intellectual property rights over her unique logo which we offer, on request;

  • our flexible and extensive opening hours; 

  • we were able to work with her on a remote basis, given she is in Godalming, Surrey and we are based in the Crawley/Gatwick area of West Sussex

  • we tailored a package to suit her, ensuring that within her budget she was able to achieve all aspects of the project that were most vital to her.

WHAT DID WE DO & HOW?

The Client came to us with quite a clear direction for her logo and had even drawn us some initial ideas which was great.  The logo was to include a Glitterball, the bakery name and an element of sparkle.  

 

Following a discussion regarding the initial sketches that the Client had provided and a constructive critique of her concepts, a design theme was agreed.  Our graphic designer put together a number of logos and fonts and presented these to the Client for discussion.  We loved Fiona’s honest and direct approach to feedback during this project which was refreshing and after noting her preferences we developed a number of the logos further.  We also started to discuss the colour palette and the challenge of ‘sparkle’.  Glitterballs by nature are very intricate but it was key that the logo could still translate well on a small scale, although still encompassing a clear glitterball and the sparkle of this. 

 

Another challenge with this logo was to find a font that the Client felt represented her business and off the shelf solutions were not suitable as she was keen to have a unique handwritten modern style.  We therefore purchased a specialist piece of kit and handwrote the business name exactly as per her requirements.  She was thrilled - “I Love what you have created. Thank you so much. Totally sparkly and brilliant.”

OUTCOME & FEEDBACK

We really enjoyed this project and are sure that Fiona’s business will be a huge success.  All assets were delivered to the Client electronically within 2 weeks of her contacting us, along with specific details of the selected colour palette and a suitable font that would complement the logo’s handwritten script.  An Intellectual Property Agreement was also issued to her making the logo her own.  

 

Although this project was completed late in 2016, as you can see above, Fiona has been busy putting together her website and facebook pages to showcase her work and she launched her business in April 2017.  We are therefore now in a position to share this with you and if you are in the market for a cake we highly recommend The Glitterball Bakery.
